The complete first season is also available to binge on Prime Video.\n\n[***The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring***](https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Fellowship-Ring/dp/B000YMH4CG)\n\n![The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/c8ce0a7/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1600x900+0+0/resize/767x431!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F29%2F18%2F57e5188b4926a7de1f9db043882d%2Ffellowshipofthering-inline.jpg)\n\nThis is where it all started in the modern film iterations of *The Lord of the Rings*. Released in 2001 and directed by Peter Jackson, the first movie tells the story of Frodo Baggins and his band of hobbits, elves, dwarves, and men, as they first set out on a quest to destroy the One Ring, with the fate of Middle-earth hanging in the balance.\n\n[***The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers***](https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Towers-Elijah-Wood/dp/B0037WP83M)\n\n![The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/fff6b3f/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1600x900+0+0/resize/767x431!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F0a%2F6b%2Fdc87b0bb456ea4ed17b862d547c5%2Fthetwotowers-inline.jpg)\n\nPicking up where the first movie left off, the second movie in the *The Lord of the Rings* trilogy sees Frodo and his companions continuing on their quest. As Frodo and Sam discover they're being followed by the mysterious Gollum, they also have to contend with the evil power of Sauron and his forces.\n\n[***The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King***](https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Return-King/dp/B0037WTD5G)\n\n![The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/9bc90b6/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1600x900+0+0/resize/767x431!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F23%2F23%2F4216036947d69a456f0d5b16a9ba%2Freturnoftheking-inline.jpg)\n\nThe culmination of the original trilogy, the third installment answers once and for all whether Frodo and his companions can destroy the evil forces wrapped up in the One Ring.\n\n[***The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey***](https://www.amazon.com/Hobbit-Unexpected-Sir-Ian-McKellen/dp/B00BWJ6JO4)\n\n![The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/691446e/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1600x900+0+0/resize/767x431!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2Fcb%2F90%2F7e270d08451480ab969ddf80a8e4%2Fthe-hobbit-anunexpectedjourney-inline.jpg)\n\nReleased in 2012 and set before the original *The Lord of the Rings* trilogy, the first *Hobbit* movie tells the story of Bilbo Baggins and his adventures with Gandalf, Thorin Oakenshield, and a company of dwarves, as they set out to reclaim the lost kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug.\n\n[***The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug***](https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B0FWYZF3ZL/ref=atv_sr_fle_c_sr23dee5_3_1_3?sr=1-3&pageTypeIdSource=ASIN&pageTypeId=B0FV8FQK6M&qid=1769543427417)\n\n![The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/6ff34eb/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1600x900+0+0/resize/767x431!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F69%2F0b%2Fdc37b20a40bca1a3246eb3352fba%2Fthehobbit-desolationofsmaug-inline.jpg)\n\nSecond in the *Hobbit* trilogy, this movie continues the journey of Bilbo and his friends as they come face to face with Smaug and finally determine whether or not they can reclaim Erebor for its rightful owners.\n\n[***The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies***](https://www.amazon.com/Hobbit-Battle-Five-Armies/dp/B00R2LTNL2)\n\n![The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/9adc712/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1600x900+0+0/resize/767x431!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F7c%2Fb4%2F8d8efeba41be931ffd4ae08a7fb5%2Fthehobbit-battleoffivearmies-inline.jpg)\n\nThe third and final installment in the *Hobbit* trilogy, *The Battle of the Five Armies* tells the story of Bilbo and his friends as they're forced into battle to prevent Erebor from falling into the hands of a rising evil in Middle-earth.\n\n![Morfydd Clark as Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/7ba4592/2147483647/strip/true/crop/2824x1883+88+0/resize/300x200!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F90%2Fd8%2Fbbb02c04465c9c0a43973b8c391f%2Flotr-s2-ut-221025-00250-r2-3000.jpg)\n\n- [Everything you need to know about ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 2](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/entertainment/lord-of-the-rings-the-rings-of-power-season-2)\n\n## Best order to watch 'The Lord of the Rings' in\n\nOf course, given the different timelines, you might be wondering what the best order to watch all of these movies and shows is. There are two main orders you should consider.\n\n**Watching in order of release:** The first way to watch everything is in order of release. This starts with *The Fellowship of the Ring*, followed by *The Two Towers* and *The* *Return of the King*. Next comes *The Hobbit* movies; *An Unexpected Journey*, then *The Desolation of Smaug*, culminating in *The Battle of the Five Armies*. Finally, you can round out your experience with the *The Rings of Power* TV show.\n\nWatching in order of release will allow you to discover the story as much of the world did—but it means you might not be caught up on all the lore.\n\n**Watching in chronological order:** The second way to watch *Lord of the Rings* is in chronological order. This means starting with *The Rings of Power*, as it serves as an introduction to the world and its characters. Then you can watch *The Hobbit* trilogy to discover more about Middle-earth before setting out on your final journey with *The Fellowship of the Ring*. Follow that up with *The Two Towers* and *The* *Return of the King*.\n\nLearn [everything you need to know about Prime Video](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/entertainment/what-you-need-to-know-about-prime-video).","publisher":{"@type":"Organization","name":"About Amazon","url":"https://www.aboutamazon.com","sameAs":["https://x.com/amazonnews","https://www.linkedin.com/company/amazon","https://www.instagram.com/amazonnews"],"logo":{"@type":"ImageObject","url":"https://assets.aboutamazon.com/bd/8f/88e7b0314cc2bd05b9de3155a0fe/amazon-news.svg"},"parentOrganization":{"@type":"Organization","name":"Amazon","url":"https://www.amazon.com","sameAs":["https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q3884","https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_(company)","https://x.com/Amazon"]}}}
