So, if you realize you need more sunscreen or forgot you needed more batteries, but don’t have time to make a trip to the store, Amazon has you covered.\n\n![a collage of five different unique amazon delivery methods: a rivian van driving down a road, a man riding an e-cargo bike in new york, a pack of mules crossing a bridge, bison following a truck in yellowstone, and a prime air drone ](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/318ca0f/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1688x1125+156+0/resize/300x200!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F36%2F78%2F3f4e6ac74b5daca3ce5611382742%2Faa-apr2024-uniquewayspackagesaredelivered-hero-v1-2000x1125.jpg)\n\n- [9 unique ways Amazon packages are delivered around the world, from e-bikes to mules](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/transportation/unique-amazon-delivery-methods)\n\nIt all starts at Amazon.com or in the Amazon Shopping app. Customers can choose more than 60,000 items for [drone delivery](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/operations/mk30-drone-amazon-delivery-packages) as our selection continues to grow. Recently, we received FAA approval to deliver several new categories of items, including devices like Apple iPhones, Samsung Galaxy cellphones, Apple AirTags, Apple AirPods, Ring doorbells, and Alpha Grillers Instant Read Food Thermometers.\n\nAll you need to do is select the drone delivery option when you check out if you’re in an eligible area and the item in your cart is 5 pounds or less.\n\n![Online shopping page for children's skincare item with various delivery choices.](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/c71c2cb/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1600x900+0+0/resize/767x431!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F57%2F86%2F1a98a4ab4fbeaeae666181034e9a%2Fabout-amazon-inline-aa-mar2025-amazondrone-standard-inline-v2-400kb-1600x900.jpg)\n\nFrom there, select and confirm your preferred delivery spot at your address, such as in a driveway or yard. You won’t have to confirm your delivery point on your next order, and you can always update the delivery location or report an issue.\n\n![Smartphone screen showing drone delivery confirmation interface.](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/41dab0f/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1600x900+0+0/resize/767x431!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2Fb6%2Fc6%2Fb034a035486bbe2fabcb4cf93c3c%2Fabout-amazon-inline-aa-apr2025-amazondrone-standard-inline-v4-1600x900.jpg)\n\n## A simplified experience\n\nOur latest ordering process is the result of two years of building and incorporating the technology that allows seamless onboarding based on digital maps, and removing the need of physical survey of the delivery area.\n\nNow, we can accurately determine how long it will take to fly to an address and drop off the package. So, after the order is placed, Amazon determines a near-exact delivery time (within five minutes) of when to expect it. Amazon will also notify you if your delivery cannot be completed.\n\n![Aerial view of Prime Air drone taking off with safety-vested observer below.](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/cbe3003/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1600x900+0+0/resize/767x431!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2Fa5%2F27%2F59699f3344de9f214627ac11611e%2Fabout-amazon-inline-inline019-archive018-aboutamazon-dronedelivery-amz-az-2025-27a1550-xf-8192x5464-copy-8192x4608.jpg)\n\nWhile building the drone delivery map, Prime Air first identified “delivery zones,” or areas free of obstacles like buildings or trees. Based on these zones, “delivery points” were added to each eligible address that were clear of obstacles, reachable by a drone, and ensure good customer experience. For example, a swimming pool looks like a flat surface on satellite images, but isn’t a suitable delivery point.\n\nThe introduction of the new [MK30 drone](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/transportation/amazon-prime-air-drone-delivery-mk30-photos), streamlines the delivery process. Previously, Prime Air would deliver to a QR code placed in a customer’s designated delivery area. Now, the process is automated so that orders arrive directly at designated delivery points without the need for a physical QR code.\n\n![Amazon drone delivers package in customer backyard.](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/df05f3d/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1600x900+0+0/resize/767x431!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2Fa3%2Fe2%2F1d46497146f2ae371127304a5185%2Fabout-amazon-inline-inline001-archive007-aboutamazon-dronedelivery-2024-12-amzd2-2005-watching-drop-f-8180x5467-copy-8180x4601.jpg)\n\nWhen it reaches the delivery point, the drone verifies it’s in the right location with the right package before making the delivery.\n\n## Fast and convenient deliveries\n\nOnce a drone arrives at a delivery point, it descends to approximately 13 feet above the ground—low enough to deliver an item safety and securely. The drone also ensures the delivery area is clear of pets, cars, or people before it delivers the package.\n\n![Amazon box on grass with person walking by at sunset.](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/dims4/default/f2d321c/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1600x900+0+0/resize/767x431!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.aboutamazon.com%2F29%2F5d%2F538e8a4e4e2482afc7aba5227796%2Fabout-amazon-inline-inline003-archive012-aboutamazon-dronedelivery-amz-az-2025-27a0002-xfb-8192x5464-copy-8192x4608.jpg)\n\nThe cutting-edge perception system can detect and navigate around obstacles that may not be on satellite imagery or that may enter the drone’s vicinity.\n\nNot every day can be clear and sunny, either. While the MK30 can fly well in light rain, Prime Air won’t accept deliveries in all weather conditions. The team uses a 75-minute forward-looking weather service to determine if a drone delivery should be available in the next hour. If the conditions are not right, the service won’t be available in the app – customers can still have the item delivered through a standard delivery.\n\nDrone deliveries are an extension of Amazon’s steadfast commitment to a fast and convenient shopping experience for customers.\n\nNow that we've made the process more streamlined and seamless, we are excited to continue to scale the service to reach more customers in the months and years ahead.","publisher":{"@type":"Organization","name":"About Amazon","url":"https://www.aboutamazon.com","sameAs":["https://x.com/amazonnews","https://www.linkedin.com/company/amazon","https://www.instagram.com/amazonnews"],"logo":{"@type":"ImageObject","url":"https://assets.aboutamazon.com/bd/8f/88e7b0314cc2bd05b9de3155a0fe/amazon-news.svg"},"parentOrganization":{"@type":"Organization","name":"Amazon","url":"https://www.amazon.com","sameAs":["https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q3884","https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_(company)","https://x.com/Amazon"]}}}
