How we teach computers to talk
Alexa skills are like apps for Alexa, and Skill Blueprints enable anyone to create and share customized Alexa skills simply by filling in the blanks to one of dozens of easy-to-use templates. In this activity, Cami, Akersh, and Sylvester will teach you about some key computer science concepts and technologies that bring Alexa to life. (To create an Alexa Skill Blueprint, you’ll need an Amazon login, but viewing the video lessons does not require one.)
Computers like Alexa are now starting to talk, but not without the help of people. Humans write computer programs to help computers learn about the way we talk. At Amazon, we have thousands of scientists, engineers, and innovators working really hard to help Alexa become even smarter at learning. In computer science, we call this machine learning.
Follow along in the next steps as the silly puppet named Sylvester learns all about variables, skills, and even where Alexa “keeps her brains.”
Virtual Kids Week activities are intended for children with involvement from a parent or guardian.
