[A new independent study](https://assets.aboutamazon.com/c6/35/6d0238424b15ba1f83a14ce80587/aws-aragon-report.pdf) found that [Amazon Web Services](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/tag/aws)' (AWS) digital infrastructure is driving revenue, employment, and new business opportunities at home and internationally for the Spanish companies that help build and operate the data centers.

According to the study by GfK, part of NielsenIQ, commissioned by AWS, 85% of local suppliers say working with AWS has had a positive impact on their business, and none rated it negatively.

[Amazon plans to invest €33.7 billion](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/company-news/amazon-spain-investment) ($37.5 billion) in Spain through 2035 to expand and support this infrastructure in Spain. The total planned investment is estimated to contribute €31.7 billion to Spain's GDP through 2035, supporting the equivalent of 29,900 full-time jobs on average per year at local companies, including direct, indirect, and induced jobs.

## How Amazon data centers help local companies grow revenue

Based on interviews with suppliers to AWS's data centers and a random sample of local companies in the same sectors that do not work with the company, the study reveals that more than half (60%) of suppliers have increased their revenue since they began working with AWS, with an average increase of 35% among those reporting a positive impact, 9 points above non-suppliers (26%). More than half (53%) report an increase in net profit with just 33% of non-suppliers.

"In just three years, our revenue tied to AWS-related projects has grown more than sixfold, and we've increased our workforce by around 15%. For a family business from Teruel like ours, it is a point of pride and a great opportunity to grow alongside an international company that is betting on the Aragón region," said Jaime Valimañas, CEO of GILVA, a company specialized in precast concrete products.

## Do Amazon data centers create job opportunities?

Yes. One of the most notable findings is the impact on employment. Nearly 60% of AWS suppliers in Spain have increased their workforce, versus 41% of non-suppliers. On average, roughly 1 in 5 of their employees work on AWS-related projects, a significant share of the employment structure of the companies analyzed.

"Thanks to the projects related to the construction of AWS's data centers in Aragón, we've increased our revenue by nearly 22% and expanded our workforce by 25%, going from 24 to 30 employees. These figures are a sign of the positive impact AWS's presence has in our region," said Javier Giral, CEO of Giral Excavaciones y Obras, a company with more than 50 years of experience.

## Working with AWS opens doors to new business opportunities

Working with AWS not only consolidates Spanish companies' core business but also opens new opportunities. 22% of suppliers have opened at least one new line of business thanks to their work with AWS, versus 9% of unconnected companies. Among suppliers operating internationally, 21% credit AWS with enabling that expansion. And more than 12% of local suppliers have already expanded—or are in the process of expanding—their work to other AWS Regions worldwide: a clear sign that the expertise developed in Aragón is creating opportunities well beyond Spain's borders.

"Working with AWS has been an opportunity for us to grow, create jobs, and develop a new specialization in data centers. The value of this growth lies in the talent and knowledge that stay here and strengthen the competitiveness of Aragón's business fabric," said José María Alzaga, general manager of Gotor Comunicaciones, a Spanish company specialized in telecommunications consulting and engineering.

## Looking ahead

Prospects for continuity and growth are very favorable: 75% of suppliers expect to grow over the next 2–3 years, versus 30% of non-suppliers. More than a quarter (27%) of suppliers report greater financial and operational stability since they began working with AWS, and 3 in 10 say the collaboration has given them greater confidence and flexibility in their business decisions.

Eva Valle, minister of economy, competitiveness, and employment of the Government of Aragón said, "The real value of an investment like AWS's lies in how it spreads across our economy: in the small and medium-sized companies that are growing, hiring, and taking on new projects thanks to it. Our goal is for this technological revolution to reach every corner of Aragón, so that no business is left behind and our entire region becomes more competitive and productive."

"When we invest in infrastructure in Aragón, the benefit does not stay within our data centers: it multiplies across the region's business fabric. In Aragón, most of our suppliers have found new business opportunities, grown their revenue and profit, and created new jobs. Our commitment is to remain an engine of opportunity for the local economy," said Suzana Curic, country leader of AWS for Spain and Portugal.
