Energy and environment
Amazon was the leading corporate purchaser of renewable energy in the United States in 2016. We have a long-term goal to power our global infrastructure using 100% renewable energy.
Energy and environment
We invest in energy efficiency and renewable energy to minimize our impact on the planet’s natural resources.

Our continued investments in renewable energy

Two new renewable energy projects bring Amazon to 66 projects globally, including 51 solar rooftops.

50 solar rooftops completed

The Solar Energy Industries Association ranks Amazon #1 in the U.S. for corporate on-site solar installed in 2018. Our U.S. solar installations offset the CO2 equivalent of more than 200 million miles of truck deliveries.

Amazon's urban campus

Several years ago we outgrew our space in Seattle and we made a conscious choice to invest in downtown Seattle—even though it would have been cheaper to move to the suburbs.

Delivering Shipment Zero, a vision for net zero carbon shipments

Shipment Zero is Amazon’s vision to make all Amazon shipments net zero carbon, with 50% of all shipments net zero by 2030.

Energy and environment

At Amazon, we are putting our scale and inventive culture to work on sustainability not only because it is good for the environment, but also for the customer. By diversifying our energy portfolio, we can keep business costs low and pass along further savings to customers. It's a win-win-win.

Responsible sourcing

Amazon is strongly committed to conducting its business in a lawful and ethical manner, including engaging with suppliers that are committed to the same principles.

Amazon wind and solar farms

Amazon is committed to using 100% renewable energy across our global infrastructure. In April, we announced our latest milestone – three new wind farms in Ireland, Sweden, and the United States. In 2018, AWS exceeded 50% renewable energy usage, and these three projects will deliver wind-generated energy that will total over 229 megawatts (MW) of power, with expected generation of over 670,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy annually.
Diversity and inclusion
Amazon’s mission is to be the earth’s most customer-centric company, and this mission is central to our work in diversity and inclusion.
