Amazon’s mission is to be the earth’s most customer-centric company, and this mission is central to our work in diversity and inclusion. Diverse and inclusive teams have a positive impact on our products and services, and help us better serve customers, selling partners, content creators, employees, and community stakeholders from every background. We are constantly learning and iterating, whether through central programs or work within our business teams, through programs that are local, regional, and global.

We are continually looking for ways to further strengthen our culture of inclusion. We have ten employee-led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters globally. We have innovative benefit offerings, and we host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences. Our focus on diversity and inclusion has been independently recognized as one of the best places to work on Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index and LinkedIn's Top Companies; been recognized on the NAACP Equity, Inclusion, and Empowerment Index and the Disability Equality Index; and received the 2019 American Foundation for the Blind Helen Keller Achievement Award. To help bring the best talent into Amazon, we recruit from diverse academic institutions, we partner with organizations globally, and we also support non-traditional learning pathways, like the Amazon Veteran Technical Apprenticeship, which places transitioning members of the military into technical apprenticeships at Amazon. These efforts are part of our work to further improve representation across technical and non-technical roles. Read more about hiring the best talent.

With more than 647,000 employees worldwide, we are continuing to learn and iterate through programs and partnerships. We also know that representation within our leadership matters. For example, five out of our ten independent board members are women. We are expanding our efforts to grow and develop leaders who represent the diversity of our customers through hiring and development. Read more about our workforce data.

Our focus on diversity and inclusion helps us keep improving the customer experience – and the selection, value, and convenience we provide our customers from every walk of life. Programs like Amazon Web Services’ We Power Tech – which involve collaboration with partners around the world – help us train the future tech workforce and amplify the voices of underrepresented technologists.
