Sam Shockley, Senior Product Manager, Amazon Disaster Relief
Sam Shockley leads disaster relief across the Americas as a senior product manager. Over her seven years at Amazon, she’s most proud of the work she’s done building programs from the ground up: creating Amazon’s first Disaster Relief Tech Hub, which lends rapid response technology systems to nonprofit partners; launching disaster relief hubs in Mexico and Canada; and building the Activation Management System to streamline how the team responds when disasters strike. Outside of Amazon, she serves as a board member for The Bridge of Hope.
Sam traces her commitment to this work back to personal experience from two separate disasters: the 2001 6.8 magnitude Nisqually earthquake in Seattle and Hurricane Michael in 2018, a Category 5 storm that hit Florida’s panhandle. Those experiences shaped a simple belief she carries into the job every day: disaster relief is everyone’s responsibility. When she’s not working, you’ll find her hiking or traveling with her husband and her 10.5-year-old Australian Shepherd, Ozwald—who’s been to 31 states with her—or with a good book and a cup of coffee.
