Amazon donated and delivered more than 165,000 emergency supplies and technology systems to aid wildfire relief efforts
Amazon is standing with communities in Eastern Washington that are facing one of the worst wildfire seasons of the past 20 years. Three major wildfires, named the Spokane Complex Fires, destroyed over 10,000 acres and more than 800 homes and buildings.
Amazon took immediate action to support affected employees and neighbors in our home state, offering an employee relief fund and supporting 17 organizations at the center of emergency response.
Here's a look at how Amazon partnered with nonprofits to support communities impacted by the Spokane County fires. Since August 1, Amazon has:
- Donated and delivered more than 165,000 vital emergency supplies for families displaced from home, including masks, air purifiers, generators, and water filters.
- Provided 90 rapid response technology systems for off-grid power as neighborhoods faced fire-related outages.
- Worked with local nonprofits to get more than 6,000 food items to families in need at no cost, including canned tuna, instant oatmeal, applesauce, and granola bars.
- Supported families who lost their home with cash donations to H.O.M.E. Starts Here Fund and Second Harvest.
Neighbors stepping up for neighbors
Hundreds of Amazon volunteers stepped up to provide comfort and support to their neighbors after the devastating Spokane Complex Fires. In Mead, Washington, volunteers prepared and distributed food donations for families who couldn’t go home. More than 200 miles away at Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle, volunteers showed up, shift after shift, to pack more than 9,000 hygiene kits filled with toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and other toiletries in less than 24 hours.
More volunteers from Amazon have signed up to pitch in with continued relief efforts.

Amazon expands aid as Eastern Washington wildfires force extended evacuations
As the wildfires in Eastern Washington continue to burn, they've now forced more than 67,000 people to evacuate, destroyed hundreds of homes, and scorched over 10,000 acres.
Here’s how Amazon is expanding its efforts to aid communities affected by the Spokane County fires—including our employees in Washington state, where Amazon has deep ties.
Delivering specialized supplies for firefighters and evacuees
More than 54,000 donated supplies from Amazon, including air purifiers, masks, towels, hygiene kits, shelf-stable food, and hydration packets, are making their way into the hands of firefighters and evacuees through our partnerships with multiple nonprofits, including:
The first truckloads of supplies arrived in Washington on August 5 from Amazon's specialized Wildfire Relief hub in California. Now, Amazon's Spokane-area facilities are serving as local launch points. More trucks will deliver customized bundles of supplies to nonprofit partners throughout the week, each one tailored to what's most needed—from diapers and wipes to sport drinks and snacks.
“Amazon’s support has made an immediate and meaningful difference for those affected by the fires,” said Christine Brischle, vice president of Philanthropy & Mission Advancement at the YMCA of the Inland Northwest. “We were honored to provide hygiene kits to the brave firefighters working tirelessly to protect our communities and distribute air purifiers to families experiencing the harmful effects of wildfire smoke in their homes and throughout the community. One family shared how much it meant to receive one for their child who suffers from severe asthma. These gifts are providing comfort, protection, and peace of mind to some of our most vulnerable neighbors during an incredibly difficult time.”
Supporting employees and families who’ve lost their homes
An Amazon relief fund is available to employees and partners impacted by the wildfires. To support families who lost their homes, Amazon made cash donations to H.O.M.E. Starts Here Fund and Second Harvest. Amazon volunteers are also stepping up to support their neighbors, packing hygiene kits and preparing other supplies as needed.
Year-round, Amazon operates 12 Disaster Relief hubs in seven countries worldwide filled with emergency supplies to help communities quickly respond to disasters when they strike. Since 2017, Amazon has donated and delivered more than 30 million essential supplies in response to over 200 disasters around the world.

Amazon is donating and delivering emergency supplies as wildfires force more than 65,000 residents from their homes
Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the wildfires in Spokane County, Washington, which have devastated multiple neighborhoods and remain uncontained. Amazon has operations and employees across Washington state, so this disaster hits close to home. Nearly 65,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in the area, as crews battle three major wildfires. Hundreds of homes, businesses, and buildings have been destroyed, with the fires consuming more than 8,000 acres since they started on August 1.
Here's how Amazon is helping communities affected by the Spokane County fires.
Prioritizing safety
Our top priority is ensuring the safety of our employees and partners. We have a 24/7 operation dedicated to providing alerts and up-to-date information when severe events like this occur to help inform our operational decisions, as well as an emergency relief fund for impacted employees.
“Washington is home to Amazon and to tens of thousands of our employees. As the situation evolves, we remain committed to supporting our employees and the wider community affected by the Spokane wildfires,” said Amazon Head of Disaster Relief Abe Diaz. “We will continue to closely monitor the situation and take the necessary precautions to remain safe, while supporting relief efforts in coordination with community partners and humanitarian organizations in the coming weeks. We encourage everyone to prioritize safety and follow guidance from local emergency officials.”
Donating and delivering emergency supplies
Amazon is working with the American Red Cross, Save the Children, and local nonprofits in Spokane to donate and deliver emergency supplies. More than 26,000 emergency supplies—including air purifiers, masks, diapers, and hygiene kits for displaced families, and heavy-duty gloves, boots, and hydration packets for firefighters—are arriving August 4 in the Spokane area from Amazon’s specialized Wildfire Relief hub in California. A second wave of donated supplies will follow.
