Amazon's Cambridge and Boston offices hosted their first ever Bring Your Kids to Work Day events, this August. Including activities and events for over 300 Amazonians and their kids, the days brought laughter, learning and peculiar activities for parents and children alike.
Kids were welcomed with name tags and water bottles, and given the opportunity to get photos taken for their very own badges (just like mom or dad) which they took home as souvenirs after the event. Kids had the chance to check-out their parents' workplaces, meet their parents' coworkers and learn a bit about what working at Amazon looks like.
The day was filled with events for children of all ages, including a pop-up version of the Amazon Seattle Expressions Lab (an art studio where employees can unwind and get creative) that included finger painting, jewelry making and crafts. Kids were even invited to create their own fire breathing dragon – no easy task, but a fun and exciting challenge for attendees of all ages! Local children’s book author Josh Funk stopped by to read the group a handful of funny and action-packed books, and both the kids and adults loved hearing Josh bring characters to life.

The science fair featured engaging experiments (one in which a volunteer stood on two dozen raw eggs without breaking them!) and another where kids could master the art of making their own slime. Our Hour of Code sessions showed kids how to code their own games based on their individual skill levels, teaching participants coding skills that they could take home and continue to build on. Future Amazon programmers, perhaps? Plus, an Echo Show was on-site with a full photo booth where kids and parents could take fun photos to commemorate the day.
Future Amazonians, get ready!
