$40,000 scholarships for 100 deserving high school seniors

I’m excited to announce that Amazon has awarded 100 students across the country with $40,000 Amazon Future Engineer college scholarships to study computer science. Each student also received an offer of a paid internship at Amazon after their first year in college. And this year, they’ll also receive a selection of college essentials, including a Prime Student membership, Fire HD 8 tablet, and $100 credit to use for college textbook needs. This is the second class of students to receive this award from Amazon Future Engineer, our childhood-to-career program that provides access to computer science education.

Amazon is thrilled to deliver the exciting news to these students. Amazon Future Engineer is committed to supporting students from underserved and underrepresented communities. This year’s scholarship recipients come from 30 states, and more than 50% of them identify as female. All of the students qualify for financial assistance for college. For the first time, one of our scholarship recipients is from a U.S. territory—Puerto Rico. Watch the video below to see some of the students receive the news about their scholarships.

Many of our scholarship recipients also enjoyed surprise video chats with celebrities including Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky, Seattle Seahawk Emmanuel Ellerbee, country singer Carly Pearce, and country duo Maddie and Tae. I joined one of these calls, and listened to the students get some great advice and encouragement for their college careers and beyond. I am filled with hope after speaking with a few of these students, as they prepare themselves to tackle the challenges of the future. These scholarships represent Amazon’s belief in each of these students.
