Amazon is supporting nonprofits on the ground after wildfires hit southwest France
Our hearts go out to all those affected by the devastating wildfires in the Gironde region of southwest France. Amazon is donating and delivering emergency supplies to impacted communities.
The Gironde wildfires are France’s most severe in half a century, destroying roughly 104,000 acres before being contained. The massive wildfires took two lives, destroyed more than 200 homes, and forced more than 220,000 people to be evacuated across the region.
Here’s how Amazon is helping.
Donating and delivering supplies
Amazon is donating and delivering more than 80,000 emergency supplies through our partners, including hygiene kits, blankets, cots, and sleeping bags from our Disaster Relief hub in Germany to the Gironde region.
Amazon uses the same fast delivery network and cutting-edge technology that get packages to doorsteps every day to donate and deliver essential relief items to our nonprofit partners on the ground.
Amazon is working closely with la Croix-Rouge française, la Protection Civile, and le Secours populaire français to deliver aid to wildfire-affected communities in France.
Prioritizing safety
Our top priority is ensuring the safety of our employees and partners. We have a 24/7 operation dedicated to providing alerts and up-to-date information when severe events like this occur to help inform our operational decisions.
Amazon operates Disaster Relief hubs in seven countries around the world to quickly respond to disasters when they strike. Since 2017, Amazon has responded to more than 200 natural disasters, donating and delivering more than 30 million essential supplies. In addition to our response in France, Amazon also recently supported communities impacted by back-to-back earthquakes in Venezuela, Hurricane Melissa in the Caribbean, and flash floods in Spain and India.
