This summer, we had the privilege of throwing our neighbors at Mary’s Place a giant ‘end-of-summer’ BBQ. From face-painting and cotton-candy to a visit from the Seattle Fire Department, this BBQ put a big smile on the faces of Mary’s Place residents and also Amazon employee volunteers.

Great neighbors don’t just bring some extra sugar over when you run out – great neighbors stay and help you cook.

At this event, Mary’s Place Executive Director Marty Hartman said about Amazon that, “great neighbors don’t just bring some extra sugar over when you run out – great neighbors stay and help you cook.” We’re incredibly proud to support Marty and Mary’s Place, and our work with them is just one of the ways that we are committed to contributing to the communities where our employees and customers live.

Today we were excited to try out something new with the help of our partners at Seattle Foundation– our first ever Nonprofit Expo. At this event, nearly 70 local Seattle nonprofits set up tables in our Meeting Center, and hundreds of Amazon employees poured in to learn more about what these nonprofits are doing for our community, and to learn about ways they can get involved.

Amazon employees browsed from table to table, grabbing pamphlets about various nonprofits. They signed up for volunteer opportunities and learned more about what these nonprofits do for our community. Marty Hartman said Mary’s Place left with pages and pages of contact information for potential volunteers. “Today was an awesome day,” she said. A representative from the Pike Market Child Care and Preschool said he was excited so many Amazonians were interested in working with young children. A representative from the Pacific Northwest Ballet said she was grateful for a chance to meet her Amazon neighbors.

There are already many Amazonians volunteering and serving on boards around the city, and we are excited to see the new connections between our employees and our nonprofit neighbors that come from this Nonprofit Expo. We hope these connections continue to make this city we are proud to call home, even better.
