Amazon expands relief efforts in Nepal as search and rescue continues after devastating floods and landslides
Photo by REACTCommunities across Nepal remain isolated and in urgent need of humanitarian relief after flash floods and glacial landslides took more than 1,300 lives and devastated villages in the Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts. More than 5,000 people remain missing and at least 93,000 people have been impacted, according to the Nepal Red Cross Society.
As rescue operations continue in hard-to-reach locations, Amazon is making additional cash donations to nonprofits doing lifesaving work in the country and preparing emergency supplies for delivery at no cost to first responders at the center of relief efforts.
“The scale of this disaster has left many families grieving, displaced, and uncertain about what comes next," said Helene Fors, IOM Chief of Mission in Nepal. "Amazon's support comes at a critical moment, allowing us to provide assistance where it is most needed. We are grateful for Amazon's partnership and solidarity with the people of Nepal as communities begin the difficult process of recovery."

The cash donations support a wide range of work. All Hands & Hearts is cleaning up and restoring 20 schools in the Nuwakot district so children can return to a degree of normalcy, while REACT is delivering generators, hygiene kits, and mosquito repellent via helicopter from Kathmandu to flood-affected communities.
Save the Children is setting up mobile toilets and hand-washing supplies for families who lost their homes to the floods, Group for Technical Assistance is providing shelter and bedding, kitchen and household items, food, hygiene materials, and essential medicines, and One Heart Worldwide is using the funds to provide emergency relief to families with pregnant women, new mothers, and babies.

Amazon's rapid support means we can keep our volunteer responders working in Nepal and keep reaching the communities cut off by the floods,” said REACT’s CEO Toby Wicks.
Delivering emergency supplies
In addition to cash donations to support organizations at the center of the response, Amazon is preparing to donate and deliver emergency supplies to multiple organizations at no cost.
More than 43,000 supplies, including tents, blankets, and solar lights, are being readied for delivery in partnership with All Hands & Hearts, IFRC, Nepal Red Cross Society, IOM, and ShelterBox USA. We're also providing support to multiple communities impacted by flooding in India.

Amazon is working with humanitarian aid organizations in the wake of the Nepal floods
Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by the devastating floods and landslides that followed the glacier collapse along the Nepal border on August 26. The floods have claimed more than 500 lives, with nearly 2,000 people still missing and many displaced. We are actively working with aid organizations to provide support and relief during this challenging time.
Here's how Amazon is helping communities affected by the Nepal floods:
Supporting humanitarian relief agencies with cash donations and emergency supplies
To provide immediate relief, Amazon has made cash donations to two long-term, trusted partners, the International Organization of Migration (IOM) and the World Food Programme. We are assessing how we can meet additional urgent needs with the donation and delivery of essential relief items, including tents, thermal blankets, and solar lights.
“The scale of destruction and loss of life is immense, and we want to help in every way we can,” said Abe Diaz, head of Amazon's Disaster Relief. “We’re coordinating closely with humanitarian organizations on the ground to deliver aid where it's needed given the logistical challenges.”
Following the disaster, experts have warned that debris blocking river systems could trigger secondary flooding downstream, including in northern India. We're working with our local partner DonateKart in India to prepare relief supplies and response plans so we can act quickly if communities there are affected.
Mobilizing a network of Disaster Relief hubs
We have a 24/7 operation dedicated to providing alerts and up-to-date information when severe events like this occur to help inform our operational decisions.
When needed, we can also draw on our three Disaster Relief hubs in India, or our Disaster Relief hub network worldwide—stocked with tarps, toiletries, and other emergency supplies—so we can provide aid when and where it’s needed as quickly as possible.
Since 2017, Amazon has donated and delivered more than 30 million essential supplies in response to more than 200 disasters around the world, including the Venezuela earthquake and Türkiye and Syria earthquake.
