We’re incredibly thankful for all the support we received to help transform Detroit Achievement Academy, a free public charter school in Detroit, MI exclusively serving at-risk youth. Over 90 volunteers and service providers contributed over 600 volunteer hours and the school received over $50,000 in product donations from generous customers and retail vendors.
Despite rain (and even some snow!), we were able to complete three major renovations for the school: a new outdoor learning and play area, an overhaul of the school kitchen, and a full build-out of their new school location. The impact is best summarized by Kyle Smitley, Founder of Detroit Achievement Academy: “The Local Love program has been absolutely transformational and life-changing for us. Opening up a new school in Detroit is really expensive and hard. Local Love has given us a countless number of resources that we would have never ever been able to provide our students in a million years.”
