Today, Amazon’s Toronto office held a grand opening of our corporate office, showcasing our space, teams, and leadership for the first time. Since moving to Toronto two years ago, we've focused on scaling and hiring locally. We now have over 600 local corporate employees from teams including Alexa, Amazon Web Services, Amazon Media Group businesses and more.
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne addressed the crowd, as did Ashley Yang, VP of Sales and Marketing from Toronto-based small business Max Advanced Brakes, whose business has expanded by reaching customers worldwide by selling on Amazon.
In addition, we announced a $15,000 CDN donation to Toronto-based Canada Learning Code. An organization focused on inspiring Canada’s next generation of technologists, Canada Learning Code is helping women and youth learn technical skills in a hands-on, collaborative way. They are helping build tomorrow’s innovators and inventors, and we’re excited to be working with them.
As a native of the Toronto area, I’m incredibly proud to see Amazon growing in a city known for its vibrant technical talent, and am honoured to be continuing to build and scale our local presence here.
Thank you, Toronto, for making us a part of your community!
