Tens of thousands of cloud computing experts, builders, customers, partners, and technology fans will once again descend on Las Vegas for Amazon Web Service’s re:Invent. The 12th annual event takes place November 27 through December 1, featuring keynotes, innovation talks, builder labs, workshops, demos, service announcements, and much more.
Here are five things to expect at re:Invent 2023:
Generative AI everywhere
Expect to hear a lot about generative AI everywhere from keynotes to breakouts to hallway conversations. There are more than 250 generative AI sessions listed in the re:Invent catalog, including building secure generative AI applications, optimizing generative AI workloads for sustainability, and exploring generative AI for life sciences, travel, and education.
AWS news and announcements
AWS re:Invent is our biggest cloud event of the year, and a lot of news is made on stage. Expect service, customer, and partner announcements with the newest updates in generative AI, machine learning, and compute, along with stories from customers about their cloud journeys. 5 keynotes and 17 innovation talks
Hear from AWS leaders about what’s top of mind for them. Peter DeSantis, senior vice president of AWS Utility Computing, will continue his “Monday Night Live” tradition of kicking off the keynotes for the week by exploring the engineering that powers AWS services.
AWS CEO Adam Selipsky will take the main stage during the first full day of re:Invent, highlighting data, infrastructure, AI, and machine learning innovations that are helping customers achieve their goals faster. In his keynote, Swami Sivasubramanian, vice president of Data and AI at AWS, will explain how company data can be used to build differentiated generative AI applications, among other hot topics, while Ruba Borno, vice president of AWS Worldwide Channels and Alliances, will delve into the world of strategic partnerships.
Finally, Amazon Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Werner Vogels will cap off the week’s keynote presentations. And with 17 innovation talks lined up, attendees have the opportunity to dive deeper into subjects.

Immersive experiences for sports fans
New this year, the re:Invent Rec Center is giving attendees a chance to watch, play, and experience games inspired by some of the major sports franchises that partner with AWS. Attendees can experience the thrill of real-life Formula One racing through a simulator or show off their skills with an NFL passing challenge. Then, they can step up to the Bundesliga free-kick challenge to see a kick’s speed, distance, and trajectory in real time.
Aside from sports, there is plenty of interactivity to be found at the re:Invent Expo where hundreds of AWS Partners offer demos of software, data, and services that run on AWS. People can also cheer track-side at the AWS DeepRacer League Championships, a mash-up of machine learning and autonomous model car racing. The AWS Builders Fair, the science fair of projects built by AWS experts, partners, and customers, is another area people love to explore. And there will be plenty of swag to snag.
Widely anticipated keynote from Werner Vogels, his 2024 tech predictions, and what T-shirt he’ll wear next
One of the most anticipated re:Invent keynotes each year is delivered by Amazon Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Werner Vogels. Vogels is known for his re:Invent cold opens, so expect a movie-style video intro that amps up the crowd and teases what's to come in his keynote. He typically delivers his keynote around a key theme, covering a significant amount of technical ground, while also introducing some new AWS services. Concurrently, Vogels’ hotly anticipated annual tech predictions list will be published on his All Things Distributed blog where readers can get his take on the tech trends that will dominate in the coming year and beyond. And it wouldn’t be a Vogels’ keynote without another iconic T-shirt.
Since the dawn of re:Invent in 2012, it’s become a Vogels tradition to wear a different T-shirt onstage each year. From the obscure, like Osdorp Posse (cult Dutch hip-hop group), to the more mainstream, like ‘90s bands, movies, and even AWS services, Werner’s T-shirt choices reflect his eclectic interests.
