For the first time, teens between the ages of 13 and 17 years can now shop independently on Amazon while still keeping their parents informed.

Parents can add up to four teens to their Amazon Household for free and manage their teen’s payment and shipping options. If parent do not want to approve each order individually, they can set up pre-approved spending limits. Plus, if parents have a Prime membership, they can share select benefits with their teen such as Free Two-Day Shipping, Prime Video and Twitch Prime.

When a teen finds something they want to order, they can place the order on the Amazon App. Parents will then receive a text or email showing them the item, cost, shipping address, and payment information. The parent can approve the order by text or they can visit their orders page to review it in more detail.

By default, parents need to approve every order. They can choose to skip the approval step and set spending limits for their teens to offer them the freedom to place orders up to a set dollar amount without needing approval. Parents always receive itemized order details and can cancel or return items in accordance with Amazon’s policies.

As a parent of a teen, I know how they crave independence, but at the same time that has to be balanced with the convenience and trust that parents need.

As a parent of a teen, I know how they crave independence, but at the same time that has to be balanced with the convenience and trust that parents need. We’ve listened to families and have built a great experience for both teens and parents. For teens who have a parent with a Prime membership, they can also access Prime benefits at no additional cost, including fast, free shipping, Prime Video and gaming benefits with Twitch Prime.
